St183 4ws removel

Hey all my celica is getting the under side stripped and blasted ready for welding, painting and undersealing

My st183 has the 4ws any body have any knowledge of removing the system?

Whats involved i want to change bushes blast arms and paint any help would be great thanks

I also restored my Celica, although it's the T23 model, I think one can use this as a blueprint for other vehicles as well.

On the first page, you'll see what the finished components look like, on the second page, I describe some steps of the process.

I've restored the entire bodywork, especially the components in the underbody and engine compartment.
I think that's also your goal. I'm not sure how it looks with your Celica from the T18 model, but with the T23, individual rubbers weren't available anymore, only complete with the arms, at least not from Toyota. I think it will be similar with the T18, maybe even more difficult because the car is now so old that you can't get anything anymore.

As far as I know the 4ws system was a JDM exclusive. I doubt that anyone here has ever seen that before. You might want to search Google/Yahoo with a Japanese prompt or consider joining Japanese forums.

I didn't know that '4WS' stands for all-wheel steering. I knew that many car manufacturers, especially Japanese ones in the early 90s, incorporated all-wheel steering, but I wasn't aware that they implemented it in a Celica.

The car is really cool. All-wheel drive, all-wheel steering, and turbocharging - everything they gradually removed in the subsequent models. What a shame.

Try to get the workshop manuals for this car. Otherwise, the parts catalog can help. There, you can see what components the all-wheel steering consists of and how it's assembled. That can often be very helpful. And thanks for the update. That was really interesting..

But I wouldn't necessarily disassemble this steering system too much, since you normally need new seals when assembling components like this and they definitely won't be available anymore.

Hi @CrustymenScrow ,

the car is incredible with all it offers. I'm currently going through the parts catalog. Somehow, there seems to be a hydraulic system installed for the shock absorbers.

Unbelievable, and all of this was available in the nineties! I'm so excited. Please send me some pictures of the components when you get the chance.
